4 Quick Tips for Better Mulching in the Fall

Why is it a good idea to lay mulch as the colder weather comes through? Our garden center associates came up with four simple reasons.

1. Spring is a very busy season to get everything done. Mulch in fall to skip that job so your yard is ready ahead of time. You know which season ISN’T that busy for yard and garden? Late fall. Use that time to get ahead.

2. Keep it cool. Tackling a labor-intensive job like mulching can be much more pleasant when temperatures are in the mid 50s instead of humid 80s and 90s.

3. Mulching is a quicker job when you cut back perennials for winter, because you aren’t working around bulb shoots and seedlings. That means you can avoid two spring chores in one effort, which makes sense for efficient scheduling.

4. Fall is prime outdoor enjoyment season, so mulching gives you another chance to enjoy it all before Old Man Winter appears.
