Poinsettia Care Tips & Tricks
Poinsettias bright colors make them perfectly festive and the quintessential holiday gift plant. Poinsettias symbolize good cheer, success and are said to bring wishes of laughter and celebration.
These traditional plants come in red, pink, white, burgundy, and even marbled in coloring! And while they are native to Mexico and Central America poinsettias don’t like it hot.
Best Temperature for your Poinsettia
The ideal temperature for poinsettias lies between 65 and 70 degrees F, and they should be kept away from any cold or warm drafts. Avoid placing poinsettias where temperature fluctuates or may be drying, such as near cold drafts, heat ducts, fireplaces, fans, space heaters, etc.
Watering
The soil for your poinsettia should never completely dry out. Water only when the top 1-2 inches of soil feels dry to the touch. Water from the top and only to the point of saturation. The plant should never sit in standing water, it can fall victim to root rot! If your plant has as saucer underneath remove any standing water.
Indoor Light
Poinsettias need at least six hours of light each day. Put your plant in a south, east or west window where the plant will receive bright daylight.
